Celebrate National Marina Day in Southwest Florida

As part of a nationwide observance, several marinas in Southwest Florida are celebrating the seventh annual National Marina Day on Saturday, August 8, 2009. Celebrations will take place at Legacy Harbour Marina in Fort Myers, Fish-Tale Marina on Fort Myers Beach, Tarpon Point Marina in Cape Coral, Hamilton Harbor Yacht Club in Naples, and more in surrounding cities. The events are free and open to the public.

National Marina Day is an annual celebration of the important role marinas play in waterfront communities all across America. Each day, this country’s marinas serve as safe, family-friendly gateways to boating and stewards of the environment. Visit a Southwest Florida Marina this Saturday and learn about your communities’ marina while enjoying the festivities.

Here are some fun and educational boating activities you can participate in locally in celebration of National Marina Day:

Legacy Harbour Marina (10 am-5 pm):

  • Free food & beverages
  • Sailboat PWC & Kayak Rides
  • In Water Boat Shows by Bayside Yacht Sales, Marine Max, and Westcoast Motorsports
  • On Water Activities from Edison Sailing Center, Lee Paddle Sports Alliance, and Friends of Billy Creek
  • Boating Information & Education brought to by SW Florida Marine Industries Association, Hans Wilson & Associates, West Marine, Fort Myers Power Squadron, US Coast Guard Auxiliary #910, Fort Myers Fire Department, Division of Natural Resources/Marine, and Florida Sea Grant
